March Durable Goods Orders Fell 14.7% from February
The revised U.S. Census Bureau report for March shipments, inventories, and orders shows a drop of 14.7% on new orders for manufactured durable goods, a decrease of $36.6 billion to $212.6 billion.
The shipments of manufactured durable goods decrease was revised to 4.7%, a drop of $11.8 billion from February levels. This drop was previously estimated at 4.5%. As a result, durable goods shipments are currently $240.4 billion.
New orders for manufactured goods have been down four out of the last five months, decreasing in March by $51.0 billion, or 10.3%, to $445.8 billion. Meanwhile, petroleum and coal products have also seen a downward trend during the last three months, sitting at a decrease of $15.5 billion or 30.3% at $35.6 billion.
